Volkswagen of America has just announced a new director and a new role for its California design center.
The new position is part of VW’s North American Region structure, and the change gives the Design Center California more autonomy and freedom to respond to the unique design demands of Canada, Mexico and the U.S. That could mean more U.S.-centric designs like the Atlas SUV.
The new director is Reto Brun, who was previously the Design Manager at the DCC. He was responsible for the design proposals that lead to the U.S. market Passat, as well as the Audi Q6 concept, the A5 and the A8. Brun has been with VW since 1996.
Previously, the Design Center California reported to Wolfsburg and helped to deliver U.S. consumer insights. Now they’ll present their own product ideas.
“We are excited to welcome Reto to his new role at the DCC,” said Matthias Erb, Executive Vice President & Chief Engineering Officer, Volkswagen Group of America. “His strong design background and expertise in the U.S. market will be integral in leading the conceptualization of products that are competitive, desirable to American buyers, and accurately reflect Volkswagen ideals.”
