Theophilus Chin Renders A New Corrado

Just because there’s no official word on the possibility of Volkswagen creating a new Corrado model, doesn’t mean that digital artists can’t take a stab at designing their own.  Assembled using bits of Volkswagen’s Sport Coupe GTE Concept and Audi’s Sport Quattro Concept, Theophilus Chin has not only come up with something that looks great, but also something that includes enough Volkswagen design language to be believable. Now a new Corrado could certainly be built using MQB underpinnings if Volkswagen saw fit to do so, but we aren’t so sure that it would happen.  The Corrado only saw one generation of life, meaning that many potential buyers are unfamiliar with the name, and those who do remember it may still have memories of reliability issues.  Either way, if Volkswagen were to make something like this, we wouldn’t kick it out of bed. Find of the Day: 1983 Jetta Wolfsburg Edition

There’s just something indescribably right about a clean and simple Mk1.  Not to say that the big budget builds we’ve been seeing both at home and abroad aren’t impressive, but those done with a minimalist approach are able to strike the fine balance of fitting in with other traffic while still sticking out to those who know what they’re looking at.  We’d say that this find of the day executes this approach quite well, using the stock lines and a few subtle european touches to capture our attention, easily making it our Find of the Day. This Jetta has traveled roughly 250,000 miles in its 32 years of existence, powered by Volkswagen’s bulletproof 8 valve four cylinder.  At some point, the standard North American market headlights and grille have been swapped out in favor of European units which are a huge improvement, as is the lower ride height provided by a coil over suspension and 14″ steel wheels.  Unfortunately the seller did not post any images of the interior, but they claim t

Dr. Ferdinand Piech Resigns from the Volkswagen Board

Over the last couple weeks there has been a flurry of rumors, news reports, quotes from Volkswagen board members and lots of speculation by today’s wonderful media that seems more bent on finding something meaty to talk about than actually reporting facts. It started with a quote in German publication Der Spiegel that Dr. Piech, a long standing board member of Volkswagen Group, no longer had faith in Dr. Martin Winterkorn, the CEO of Volkswagen, to lead the company. This in turn lead to several other board members and the German metal workers union to throw their public support behind Dr. Winterkorn. Dr. Piech gave no specific reason why he doubted Dr. Winterkorn’s ability to lead the company in the Der Spiegel interview. However, that didn’t stop the press from speculating on a wide variety of potential reasons with no real basis in facts. In the end, Dr. Ferdinand Piech abruptly resigned this past weekend from his position as a supervisory board member with Volkswagen Group and thus
