Video: SoWo Recaps by Bsaintmedia and AxelDigital

There are quite a few videos from Southern Worthersee floating around YouTube currently, but the vast majority focus in on what we didn’t like (ahem, Saturday night), just as much as what we did.  That said, the two videos embedded below seem to have done a phenomenal job of capturing the cars, scenes, and scenery that made SoWo rather than the late night antics that proved to be the event’s demise.  First up, let’s check out the video from Bsaintmedia. Those who frequent our forums will likely be familiar with Bsaint, as both a forum member and a videographer.  His uploads from most major events have been steadily increasing in quality and storytelling over the past few years, and this latest clip is no different.  Weighing in at about 9 minutes in length, it is just about as close to attending as you could get without actually being there. Next up is AxelDigital’s recap, and while he may not have Bsaint’s name recognition, he appears to be every bit as talented.  With just 12 upl

Photoshop Friday: Theophilus Chin Renders Volkswagen Sport Cabriolet Concept GTE

Aiming to fill a gap left by the now discontinued Eos in Volkswagen’s lineup, Automotive Manipulator Theophilus Chin has applied his skill to the Sport Coupe Concept GTE, transforming it into the open-top cruiser that we can all get behind. While admittedly the front end has gotten mixed reviews, from the rear this concept looks positively stellar, almost Aston Martin-esque with recessed door handles and a high beltline.  Now will Volkswagen make something like this?  Only time will tell, but it’s always nice to speculate, especially when that speculation looks like this. See more from Theophilus Chin, here.   The post Photoshop Friday: Theophilus Chin Renders Volkswagen Sport Cabriolet Concept GTE appeared first on VWVortex . from VWVortex http://ift.tt/1Jcf0Sa via IFTTT

SEAT Prototypes Come Out at Night, New SUV and Facelifted Leon Spied

This past week our friends at CarPix spied two SEAT prototypes testing on public roads, one being their upcoming SUV model, and the other believed to be a ‘facelift’ version of the Leon.  As the images were taken after dark and during a rainstorm when the vehicles were wearing heavy camouflage, there honestly isn’t a whole lot that you can tell from the images. Starting with the Leon, we’re going to say that if it is indeed a facelift, the camo points to it being a significant one.  We can see a revised front bumper, allowing for additional cooling which points to a new powertrain lurking under hood.  Large sensors at all four axles and a computer on the dash also backs up this claim. Moving on to the SUV, we know that it will be based on the MQB platform and use engines shared across the Volkswagen Group family.  Our spies also tell us that the SEAT SUV is rumored to be eventually built alongside the Skoda Yeti, although it will retain SEAT design elements.  At this time, a hybrid

Video: Lamborghini’s Aventador SV Laps the Ring in Under 7 Minutes

When Lamborghini pulled the wraps off of their Aventador SV in Geneva earlier this year, we knew it’d be fast.  Packing more power and less weight than the standard car, Lamborghini claimed that the car would do 0-62mph in less than three seconds and a top speed of more than 200mph.  But seeing as the “true” test of a car’s performance seems to be one lap of the Nürburgring, acceleration times and top speeds are simply numbers on a spec sheet until the manufacturers have posted a verified lap time.  Last week, Lamborghini did just that, posting an on-board account of the Aventador SV’s power lap. With an unnamed test pilot behind the wheel, Lamborghini’s newest supercar fired off a sub-7 minute lap, joining an extremely elite club of road-going cars to ever do so.  In fact, only the Porsche 918 Spyder and Radical SR8 street cars have gone round more quickly.  Even more impressive, the Aventador SV’s lap time is less than one second off of Niki Lauda’s pole-setting time for the 1975 G

Lamborghini SUV Officially Confirmed, Coming in 2018

Like it or not, there’s lot of money to be made in the SUV-making business.  Looking to capture a level of success similar to its VAG-stablemate and fellow sportscar manufacturer Porsche, Lamborghini announced that it will bring a production SUV to market in 2018, based on the Urus concept vehicle.  While we don’t know specifics on the model just yet, we do know that the brand’s Sant’Agata Bolognese production facility will nearly double in size, creating jobs for an estimated 500 people.  And that’s never a bad thing. Read the full Press Release below. Automobili Lamborghini announces a luxury SUV as a third model to join its product range. The market introduction of the series model is planned for 2018. A concept of the car was first presented as the Lamborghini Urus in 2012 at the Beijing auto show. The new vehicle will be produced in Sant’Agata Bolognese and will herald additional growth and significant opportunities across the marque with the expansion of the product range. It

Volkswagen Launches New ‘Contemporary’ Brand Font

[Image: Car and Driver] Car and Driver is reporting that Volkswagen will no longer use VW Utopia as their official font, opting to go with the new “more contemporary, less geometric” VW OT typeface instead.  Created by design consultancy MetaDesign, the new font is “inspired by Volkswagen’s distinctive vehicle design”, and should be making its way to Volkswagen products very soon.  We have to wonder though, is this really the best use of Volkswagen’s time and money? Not to say that a new font couldn’t be found to subconsciously bring customers into dealerships, but we’d wager that some new product and an expanded marketing effort in key markets could do the same thing.  To read the whole report, jump over to Car and Driver’s website, right here . Video: Volkswagen Touareg Takes a Bullet in First ‘Point Break’ Trailer

The first trailer for the Point Break reboot dropped yesterday, and there’s quite a lot in there that we could talk about.  Seeing as this is a Volkswagen-centric site, I’ll skip the majority of it and focus in on the quick product placement featuring a new Touareg.  During the brief scene, the car is seen rushing towards fleeing bank robbers and being used as a shield against a barrage of gunfire. At this point in time we aren’t quite sure whether the new Point Break is more of an updated remake of the original complete with parachute-less skydiving, or simply a reboot with the same name, but at the very least it should be a decently entertaining ride packed with stunts.  Point Break is scheduled for a Christmas Day release, putting it in direct competition with some sci-fi flick called Star Wars.  It’s a bold strategy, let’s see how it pays off for ’em.
