When Lamborghini pulled the wraps off of their Aventador SV in Geneva earlier this year, we knew it’d be fast. Packing more power and less weight than the standard car, Lamborghini claimed that the car would do 0-62mph in less than three seconds and a top speed of more than 200mph. But seeing as the “true” test of a car’s performance seems to be one lap of the Nürburgring, acceleration times and top speeds are simply numbers on a spec sheet until the manufacturers have posted a verified lap time. Last week, Lamborghini did just that, posting an on-board account of the Aventador SV’s power lap.
With an unnamed test pilot behind the wheel, Lamborghini’s newest supercar fired off a sub-7 minute lap, joining an extremely elite club of road-going cars to ever do so. In fact, only the Porsche 918 Spyder and Radical SR8 street cars have gone round more quickly. Even more impressive, the Aventador SV’s lap time is less than one second off of Niki Lauda’s pole-setting time for the 1975 German Gran Prix.
