Like last season, the three works drivers Pontus Tidemand (S), Jan Kopecký (CZ) and Esapekka Lappi (FIN) will set their sights on winning titles for ŠKODA in the Fabia R5 rally car. According to the automotive industry association Anfavea, new registrations of Volkswagen and MAN brands amounted to 19,543 trucks. In the bus business, MAN Latin America ranked second with 3,659 bus chassis. In the past fiscal year, Scania accounted for 5,224 trucks and 391 buses in Brazil; however, the Swedish commercial vehicle brand is only represented in the market with models weighing over 16 tons. Full disclosure- Just about everything you are about to see is illegal, and we don’t condone it.  However, if it turns out that some of the locations used in this film were closed for filming (we’d be shocked if they were), then we’d happily take a turn at the wheel.  Rather than drone on any longer, just take a look at the video, and we’ll discuss below. Right.  Best as we can tell, this is more sand rail/dune buggy than car, but seeing as it’s got a Beetle body, we’ll allow it.  Power comes from a supercharged LS motor with 800 horsepower, and suspension travel appears to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 20″.  It’s got a license plate too, but we’d bet it’s just there for effect.  Jumps, wall-rides and other mayhem are all on display here, and apart from the destructive bits, we’d be all for it, if it were carried out in a safe, controlled environment.  Shame that it wasn’t. With the introduction of direct injection engines, intake valve carbon buildup has become a common occurrence especially on the 2.0T engines. Carbon buildup on the intake valves is largely attributed to oil vapors being recirculated back into the intake system. According to a report published recently by AutoBild , Volkswagen is planning something special for this year’s Geneva Motor Show.  If the story is indeed true, then we’ll finally see an updated version of the seventh-generation Golf, with some subtle and some not-so-subtle changes designed to make the model look a bit sharper.  This facelift, of course, will eventually find its way to all Golf models- from the entry-level Golf, right on up to the Golf SportWagen. We have been hearing that an updated Golf 7 family will break cover later this year, and Geneva is a major international show, so it would certainly make sense as a venue for such an unveiling.  With this update, Volkswagen will likely include the e-Golf’s LED headlights and a host of other upgrades in the name of efficiency, as well as the latest version of Volkswagen’s MIB Infotainment system.  It’s also quite possible that we’ll see a smaller version of the Active Info Display as seen in the European Passat, making its w

Alright, so yesterday’s Find was met with quite a bit of skepticism.  To the point where I almost bought it myself.  Almost.  But instead, I decided to look high and low for a Find that would not only be well received, but also be something a bit more special.  And luckily, before I could actually open a second window to peruse the multiple used car websites found online, a proper Find appeared to me in the form of a Tweet from David Eggen. What you’re looking at is a 51,000 original mile Quantum Synchro Wagon, likely the nicest stock example you’ll find.  Apart from what the 9 pictures found in the for sale ad suggest, the seller really doesn’t have much information available aside from price.  For $6,795, this synchro could be yours.  Seeing as you won’t find another in similar shape and the relative quirkiness of the car, we’d say that’s a deal. The first generation R32 really needs no introduction around these parts, so we’ll just go ahead and skip it.  Couple their well-earned reputation with the surprisingly graceful aging of the Mk4 platform, and it really should come as no surprise that these cars still command a premium.  So with that in mind, for someone with an abundance of time, know-how and patience, this Tornado Red example just might be the best $4500 they ever spend. Having traveled roughly 320,000 miles in its lifetime, this R32 certainly will need its fair share of work.  Things like paint (dreaded Tornado Red clear coat issues, dings and rock chips), what we can only assume to be a very tired suspension, and other issues that come from traveling the equivalent of nearly 13 laps around the earth will all need to be addressed.  But if you’re willing to  put in the wrench time, it could be a pretty cool commuter that you wouldn’t be afraid to put miles on.
