[ See image gallery at www.vwvortex.com ] Each year before the Geneva Motor Show’s opening day, the Volkswagen Group holds a special preview for us media folk, giving us an early look at what can be expected once the event officially kicks off.   This year Volkswagen did not disappoint, although there was a noticeable shift from the larger off-site productions of years past, moving to a much more intimate, small scale event.  Still, Volkswagen rolled out more than a few noticeable new models and concepts that we will be going over in the next few days. Rendered: Seven Passenger Volkswagen Tiguan

We already know that Volkswagen will be bringing a long wheelbase version of it’s new Tiguan to the states, but as of now, we’ve yet to see where exactly that extra length will come from.  In a recent rendering from Theophilus Chin, the so-called “automotive manipulator” takes a stab at just how that longer vehicle might look. By hiding those extra few inches in the rear door and cargo area, Chin has come up with a design that not only looks production ready, but downright large.  We’ve been hearing that the interior of the new Tiguan is quite spacious in production form, and by that metric, the US-spec long wheelbase version should feel cavernous.  The latest rumors suggest that this longer Tiguan will appear in Paris for this year’s Paris Motor Show.  As Volkswagen is admittedly a bit behind the curve when it comes to the SUV marketplace here in America, we’ll be watching this one quite closely. Geneva 2016: MTM Adds Electric Power to T6 Transporter

[ See image gallery at www.vwvortex.com ] German tuning firm MTM has taken a completely new approach to optimization for their latest T6 Transporter, adding an 42hp electric motor to the rear of the vehicle in addition to the usual combustion engine upgrades.  In this case, the Geneva-bound T6 e-motion’s 2.0 TDI power plant is the recipient of a software tune that boosts output to 240hp, making total output a combined 282hp.  MTM says the truck will sprint to 62mph in about eight seconds, which while not the fastest we’ve ever seen, is quite impressive for a vehicle of this size and shape. Not seen in the press photos are the T6 e-motion’s massive 405mm rotors, and 20″ MTM Bimota wheels.  More than just about performance, this concept gives us what could possibly be the future of performance modification, blending traditional power tweaks with electric propulsion systems in order to improve both performance and efficiency. The T6 e-motion will be on display at this year’s Geneva Mot

Geneva 2016: ABT Sportsline Premieres Special “120th Anniversary” Transporter

[ See image gallery at www.vwvortex.com ] The ABT T6 anniversary edition: there are always possibilities Last year, a car with a real personality turned 65. But even older than the Volkswagen van, which has conquered the whole world, is ABT Sportsline , having provided “traditional innovation” for 120 years now. “The Volkswagen van has been with us for a very long time – as our team bus in motorsports or for tuning,” says Hans-Jürgen Abt . For the CEO, the new T6 in particular is more than just an ordinary van. The latest model is really quite something, especially after having been “ ABTed” . The special anniversary edition, to be seen at the Geneva Motor Show, has 235 hp (173 kW) instead of the serial 204 PS (150 kW). The 2l turbo diesel’s torque stands at 490 Nm and can tow a lot, really. Also available is the 2l TDI with now 180 hp (132 kW). And the anniversary edition, which can also be ordered based on the Audi Q3 and Audi TT in a similar design, does not only show the exclu

Air Lift Performance Releases 3H / 3P Android Mobile App

Air Lift Performance, a leader in high-performance air suspension systems, has taken air management technology to the next level with the introduction of the new Air Lift Performance 3H system. A powerful, reliable height and pressure system, 3H is the most advanced product ever created by Air Lift Performance. A result of three years of development and testing, the new 3H system combines pressure-based control with ride- height sensing technology to factor both height and pressure together, so the desired ride height can be achieved without radical differences in pressure. With up to five custom presets, the system quickly adjusts to and maintains height and/or pressure with the push of a button. Air Lift Performance 3P uses pressure based sensing technology only, so it doesn’t include the height components that come with 3H, but is upgradable. These incredibly accurate air management systems come with a controller, but can also be controlled by the newly available Android app on

Geneva 2016: MTM V8-Swaps a Volkswagen Amarok

[ See image gallery at www.vwvortex.com ] Pickup trucks are as American as apple pie.  V8-swaps equally so.  So then it makes sense that MTM, a German tuning firm, would put a V8 in a German pickup to display at an event in Switzerland… right? Ok, maybe not.  But no matter which way you cut it, MTM’s Amarok V8 Passion Desert is certainly an interesting proposition, using Volkswagen’s 4.2 TDI and a host of interior and exterior upgrades to create an extremely enticing package.  And with 430hp and nearly 700 ft-lbs of torque on tap, the Amarok Passion Desert is something we’d gladly park in our garage. The complete package as it appears here can be had for an eye-watering $218,230, due in part to the $104,281 V8 conversion, and $20,504 interior treatment.  Check out additional images of the truck above, and keep an eye out for additional coverage of the 2016 Geneva Motor Show next week. Video: Hillclimb Scirocco Laps Modena Racetrack

We’ve quickly become fans of the European Hillclimb Championship due to it’s mix of high power naturally-aspirated engines and purpose-built wide body kits.  But we’ve always wondered what would happen if you put one of these high strung cars on a traditional circuit track with little elevation change.  Thankfully a video showing just that has appeared on YouTube, and unsurprisingly enough, the results are quite good. Watch the clip above as this 16 valve powered Mk1 Scirocco blasts around Modena Circuit, and be sure to turn the speakers up- there’s nothing quite like the sound produced by a 16 valve with individual throttle bodies. Geneva 2016: Chiron Countdown Appears on Bentley Website

With just a few days left before the opening of this year’s Geneva Motor Show, a countdown has appeared on Bugatti’s website, counting down to the moment when the manufacturer “breaks new dimensions.”  This, of course, refers to when the brand will introduce it’s successor to the highly successful (they did sell each and every one made) Veyron, the Chiron.  Said to be producing somewhere near 1500 horsepower and more than 1000 ft-lbs of torque, this hypercar is destined to break records in both speed and retail price. The latest gossip tells us that the model will come in both coupe and targa variants, and will be produced at a rate of about 100 per year.  Starting somewhere north of $2 million, the Chiron, like the Veyron before it, will be reserved for the most affluent among us.  We should all be so lucky. Spied: Next-Generation Bentley Continental GT

[ See image gallery at www.vwvortex.com ] There is absolutely no doubting that Bentley’s Continental GT has been a huge success for the brand, so when the time finally comes for a replacement, it better be good.  Our friends at CarPix send over this shots taken by Autogespot.nl of what appears to be just that- an extremely aggressive reimagining of Bentley’s current GT. Said to resurface as something akin to the EXP 10 Speed 6 concept from last year’s Geneva Motor Show, the next GT will ride atop the MSB platform, which it will share with Volkswagen Group stablemate Porsche.  Making things just a bit more interesting, the GT will retain it’s 600hp W12 power plant as well as the ‘base’ V8, meaning that this Continental should be quite an exciting drive at the limit.  We imagine the plug-in technology will come somewhere down the line, but likely not for another year or so. The reveal of the next generation Bentley Continental GT is still a ways off, but we’ll forward you any news as
