David Detweiler Appointed New Executive VP and General Councel

David Geanacopoulos Named Senior Executive Vice President for Public Affairs and Public Policy

Herndon, VA – Volkswagen Group of America announced today that it has appointed David Detweiler to serve as Executive Vice President and General Counsel, effective February 1, 2016.

Mr. Detweiler is a U.S. citizen who received his law degree from the University of Virginia and began practicing law in New York in 1995. Most recently he worked for the international law firm Clifford Chance in Frankfurt, Germany.

The Company also announced that it has appointed David Geanacopoulos to the new position of Senior Executive Vice President for Public Affairs and Public Policy. Mr. Geanacopoulos has served for nearly 8 years as the Company’s general counsel and head of government relations.

In his new role, Mr. Geanacopoulos will, as a member of the company’s Board of Directors, continue to serve on the Company’s top executive team dealing with the diesel emissions matter. His regular responsibilities will focus on the Company’s interactions with government and other institutions in the United States on all aspects of public affairs and public policy. He and the government relations team will work from a new office the Company will open shortly in downtown Washington, DC.

Our Company has asked David to continue to help us continue to make things right in the diesel emissions matter, and now to help us begin to rebuild the trust we have lost. David’s years of experience in Washington will help the Company establish a new course in its relationships with regulators, elected officials and the public.” 

Dr. Thomas Steg, Head of Group Government Relations at Volkswagen AG, said: “The diesel emissions crisis has, understandably, broken the trust of regulators, elected officials, and the public.  Now, more than ever, the Company must communicate with transparency and responsiveness to its stakeholders.  The company will establish a Group Representation Office in Washington, similar to its offices in Berlin, Brussels, Madrid and other world capitals. We are pleased that David will lead this office and assist the Company in a more concentrated way with its government relations.”

Project SportWagen: Going Stage 2 with APR

Barrett-Jackson just wrapped up its 46th annual Scottsdale auction, which set all kinds of records, including the sale of Kindig-It Design’s 1965 21-Window Deluxe Bus for $302,500 (pictured above and below). Not only did that bus set an auction record, it was the highest priced Volkswagen in Scottsdale that week. While it outdid the next closest VW by quite a margin, it wasn’t the only high priced VW at the show.
