Project SportWagen: Going Stage 2 with APR

When we last left you, the humble little SportWagen was fresh from the development process with our friends at AWE Tuning, sporting a new downpipe, exhaust and intake, allowing things to breathe a bit easier.  The car sounded great, but there was no getting around the fact that our wagon was still quite, well, slow.   While we realize that nothing we do to the Golf SportWagen at this point will make it a race car, we still felt compelled to do something .  To put it bluntly, we had a fever, and the only cure was more power. Flash forward a few hours, and we found ourselves at Waterfest, staring down APR’s palatial spread and the numerous tuned vehicles surrounding it.  Earlier in the year, APR had hinted to us that their 1.8 TSI files would be quite impressive, and based on what they were able to do with the 2.0 TSI found in the new GTI and our time in their Golf R, we knew it’d be worth the wait.  So with this in mind, we lined our GSW up behind their tent and waited patiently

Video: Volkswagen TDI-Inspired Parodies Pop Up Across the Web

I’ll level with you- I’m pretty tired of hearing about the whole TDI thing.  And until new info is released by Volkswagen, I really don’t care to read any more reports, whether credible or not.  That said, the internet is always ready for any and all opportunity to make fun of things, and luckily they delivered.  Below are some of the better ones we’ve seen. Conan’s “Volkswagen’s OTHER Crimes” In the clip above, Conan wonders why so much emphasis has been placed on the TDI thing, and the brand’s other, more impressive dishonest features have been ignored.  Things like hacking Police radar to help avoid speeding tickets, active camouflage, and fake handicapped parking permits that fold down automatically.  It’s the sort of satire we’ve come to expect from the Tarja Halonen lookalike, and we quite like it. Funny or Die’s “Basic Girls Break Up with the Jetta” Playing heavily on the ‘Jetta-driving girl’ stereotype, Funny or Die’s clip takes most things that the more basic among us ta

Volkswagen Launches Passat GTE and Passat Alltrack in Germany

Two new models added to the Passat range Volkswagen is extending its Passat range, adding the GTE and Alltrack. These models are available immediately at German Volkswagen dealers. For a year now, the three distinctive letters GTE have stood for plug-in hybrid models from Volkswagen. Following the Golf, the second GTE standard model is now going on sale, the new Passat. The Passat GTE is powered by a 1.4-litre TSI engine delivering 115 kW / 156 PS and an electric motor producing 85 kW / 115 PS. The two are perfectly coordinated and pool their resources to generate system output of 160 kW / 219 PS. The combination of turbocharged direct-injection engine (TSI) and electric motor brings together efficiency and sustainability. The lithium-ion battery that provides the e-motor with electricity is charged as the car drives along, including via regenerative braking. The charging process can, however, also be carried out at home via a charging cable connected to a mains socket. In all-e

Volkswagen Motorsport International Newsletter

With Volkswagen participating in so many forms of Motorsport around the world, it’s often difficult to keep track of their performance. Luckily for us, Volkswagen Motorsport goes through the trouble of rounding up all of the key information from their various race series, and puts it all in one press release. Let’s get started. Other “powered by Volkswagen” successes: Callum Ilott (GB, Carlin) and Antonio Giovinazzi (I, Jagonya Ayam with Carlin).

BTCC: Table-topper Shedden extends advantage at Silverstone

The lads of the BTCC did battle at Silverstone this past weekend, where a strong showing from Gordon Shedden resulted in the Honda driver opening up a 23 point lead over Team BMR’s Jason Plato.  Plato’s loss of points wasn’t due to a lack of effort, though, as the car saw a puncture and engine trouble during race one, and a lack of straight line speed for the duration of the weekend.  It wasn’t all bad for Team BMR, as Colin Turkington’s performance helped him close the gap to second place, putting him firmly in the overall championship points battle.  Plato and Turkington look to close the gap when the series heads to Brand’s Hatch in just two week’s time. Check out the full race recap below. BTCC wins for Mat Jackson, Andy Priaulx and Colin Turkington Mat Jackson, Andy Priaulx and Colin Turkington took a BTCC victory apiece at Silverstone earlier today (27 September), but it was Gordon Shedden’s points haul that had the biggest impact on the potential destiny of this year’s titl
