New Touran Now Available at Dealerships Across Europe

  • New design, more room, top marks for safety, and new assistance systems
  • Perfect smartphone integration ensures maximum connectivity

The all-new Touran is now available in Volkswagen showrooms. The new family MPV stands out with a powerful design that is significantly lighter and sportier than before. Along with an enlarged multi-variable interior, Volkswagen has equipped the Touran with a wide range of new assistance and infotainment systems. According to EuroNCAP, the Touran is also one of the safest automobiles in Europe. Despite all the additional equipment features and greater comfort and safety, the popular MPV remains as modest as the previous model, with prices for the new Touran starting at €23,350.

The new Touran combines a distinctive-sporty appearance with numerous intelligent detailed solutions. For example, the interior has been completely redesigned. With its cargo volume of up to 1,980 litres, seats that can be folded down flat to merge with the luggage floor, ISOFIX fixtures at six seats and as many as 47 storage bins, the Touran is the perfect everyday companion – and not just for families.

The Touran is also equipped with the second generation of the Modular Infotainment System (MIB II), which offers maximum connectivity and includes the “App Connect” Car-Net feature. MirrorLinkTM, Android Auto (Google) and CarPlay (Apple) make it possible to integrate all different kinds of smartphone apps directly into the infotainment system and operate them using the large touchscreen. Volkswagen “Guide & Inform” also provides online services such as up-to-date traffic alerts and information on available parking spaces and petrol stations with the lowest prices. Another benefit offered by the MIB II system is that two smartphones can now be linked to it simultaneously.

Families in particular also benefit from an additional new feature – an electronic voice amplification system that allows the driver and front passenger to be clearly heard via the hands-free telephone unit and the speakers connected to the Touran’s infotainment system when they talk to passengers in the second and third rows.

The new Touran comes with the innovative Automatic Post-Collision Braking system and PreCrash proactive occupant protection system as standard. Numerous other assistance systems are available as options. These include: ACC Adaptive Cruise Control, Front Assist with the City Emergency Braking function, Traffic Jam Assist, Side Assist with Rear Traffic Alert and the Trailer Assist trailer manoeuvring assistant. Other new features in the Touran include the automatic Easy Open tailgate function, which is activated by a foot movement, as well as a driving profile selection feature and high-performance LED headlights.

The petrol (TSI) and diesel (TDI) engines are completely new. At market launch, the Touran will be offered in two TSI and two TDI variants, with output of 81 kW / 110 PS and 110 kW / 150 PS, respectively.

Review: Saying Goodbye to the CC V6

For all its size and its global reach, Volkswagen is still, in many ways, a deeply human company. There was, for instance, the Bugatti Veyron an ego project if ever there was one. Then the purchase of Ducati, a move most called folly. And then there was the Phaeton, the Volkswagen that most folks can’t afford. Not only were these moves all strange, I’m sure that they made VW’s accountants furious. None of them made good business sense, but they were all deeply interesting and they all are evidence of the heart that beats at the center of VW. Among these follies is the CC, a car that everyone agrees is rakishly handsome, but that no one really wanted to buy. The car couldn’t last, but the world is brighter for its having been in it. With the approach debut of the Arteon, it seems like a good time to look back on its sadly departing predecessor. The version I drove, because I live in Canada, is a V6 Wolfsburg Edition, which apparently isn’t available in the States. Nor is the V6, not as...

More 3.0-Liter TDI Settlement Details Expected by January 31

Volkswagen and the TDI Plaintiff’s Steering Committee were in court today for another status conference following the agreement in principal reached earlier this week. Little new information was given at the conference held before Judge Charles Breyer today, but the court ordered the parties to develop a formal settlement agreement, class action notices, and a class notice plan by January 31, 2017. For now, though, owners still don’t know how much to expect in compensation. Elizabeth Cabraser, lead Counsel for the Plaintiff’s Steering Committee reaffirmed in a statement today that the compensation would be “substantial.” The potential cost to Volkswagen is widely reported to exceed $1 billion, though, with an additional $225 million going into an environmental trust to help offset excess emissions. Buy back offers are still only expected for the oldest 20,000 of the roughly 80,000 VW Group vehicles sold in America with the 3.0-liter TDI engine. Those vehicles are mostly SUVs, like ...
