While most of us will be in Ocean City for H2O International next weekend, the boys and girls of Red Bull Global Rallycross will head to Barbados, to do battle on the series’ longest circuit yet. Measuring 1.1208 miles in length, the course will not only be the first to be longer than one mile, but also the first to feature back-to-back jumps, meaning that this will likely be the most exciting GRC racing to date as well. Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross drivers Tanner Foust and Scott Speed look to continue their momentum coming off of a huge points weekend in Los Angeles, putting Speed well within striking distance of the overall points lead.
Read all the details below.
Red Bull Global Rallycross returns to Bushy Park Barbados on October 3-4 with a brand new course layout, the longest and fastest in series history. At 1.1208 miles long, it is the first track in series history to run for longer than a mile, and with the addition of two new passing zones via track design and a camelback jump that will see cars fly over two jumps in succession, the new course should only serve to improve upon a venue that produced some of the best racing in last year’s Red Bull GRC season.
Drivers will once again launch from an offset area into the frontstretch, where they will reach speeds in excess of 130 miles per hour before approaching the slight left-hand turn one and a pair of right-hand corners. Turn four will see the pack head into the expanded back section of the course, where drivers will look to make passes in turns six and seven before approaching another straightaway.
The loose surface portion of the course begins in turn eight, where drivers will once again encounter coquina, or crushed coral. The right-hand turn nine will lead them into the unique camelback jump, which will see drivers fly over coquina and pavement jumps back-to-back before ducking into turn 10. Turns 11 and 12 will see drivers rejoin the standard Bushy Park road course, as they make their way back to the finish line.
The Kobalt Tools Joker Lap will see drivers bypass turns nine and 10 for an alternate, paved layout, before rejoining the course in turn 11. As was the case in Los Angeles, the Kobalt Tools Joker Lap will be closed for the first lap of every heat race, semifinal, last chance qualifier, and main event.
