Sometimes when you’re exploring the limits, you push a bit too hard, and you pay the price. This past week in Corsica during Rally France preparations, Jari-Mari Latvala and Co-Driver Miika Anttila did just that. Damaging their Polo R WRC beyond quick repair after getting up close and personal with some trees after coming in a bit hot to a tight left hander, the pair have caused Volkswagen Motorsport to prematurely end testing ahead of next week’s main event.
This of course comes as a blow not only to Volkswagen Motorsport’s pocketbook, but also to teammates Sébastien Ogier and Andreas Mikkelsen as they will not get their anticipated practice time before the event. It’s true that Volkswagen has been on a tear this year, but practice still does make perfect, and Ogier has yet to win at home. We’ll see how much this all matters when the green flag drops in France on October 1st.
