Bentley Motorsports Prepares for Nurburgring 24H

Bentley Motorsports has revealed a new livery for one of the Continental GT3’s running in this year’s Nurburgring 24 Hour Endurance race, reminiscent of the one applied to 2003’s 24 Hour of LeMans winning Bentley Speed 8.  Featuring the brand’s iconic Green on white color scheme, this Continental GT3 will be staffed with Bentley Boys Guy Smith, Andy Meyrick and Steven Kane.  Bentley will field three cars in total, with the second works car to be piloted by veterans of both the circuit and of 24 hour contests, and the third being piloted by Bentley Team HTP.

  • Works Continental GT3s ready to face the ADAC Zurich 24-Hour Race at the famous Nürburgring Nordschleife
  • Team and cars prepared for their toughest challenge yet
  • Bentley Boys joined by Nordschleife specialists

(Crewe, 11th May 2015) Bentley Motorsport is making final preparations for its toughest challenge since the start of its Continental GT3 programme, the ADAC Zurich 24-Hour Race, held on the most famous racetrack in the world – Germany’s Nürburgring Nordschleife. A pair of Works Bentleys will contest the race, joined by a third car entered by Bentley’s European Works-Supported operation, Bentley Team HTP.

To perform against the extreme and unique demands of the world’s hardest endurance race, some highly experienced Nürburgring experts join the 2015 Bentley Boys. The first Works car will carry number 85, and feature a special and distinctive green livery based on that of the Bentley Speed 8 that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2003. The #85 car will be driven by the three British Bentley Boys – Guy Smith, Andy Meyrick and Steven Kane – all of whom have gained valuable experience in recent VLN races.

The second Works car, #84, will feature Bentley’s standard Works livery for 2015 and be driven by a team of Nordschleife specialists. Jeroen Bleekemolen will be joined by former Nürburgring 24-hour victors Christian Menzel and Lance David Arnold, in a line-up that combines speed with long-standing experience of the race. Lance David Arnold will also be available to drive for #85, with Christopher Brück available to stand-in in #84 depending on race conditions and progress.

Bentley’s Director of Motorsport, Brian Gush, comments:

“Competing in this famous race was one of the key targets when we started our racing programme two years ago. The challenge is not to be underestimated – we’re the newcomers amongst some very established teams here. However, our cars are well prepared and the team is well-drilled, we’ve gained great experience through VLN races, and we’re ready. The Nordschleife is the toughest racetrack in the world, and the 24-Hours is full of exceptional competitors. We already know that the Continental GT3 performs well over a full day and night of racing from the Spa 24-hour last year – but this is our hardest test yet. I’m hoping that we can keep both cars out of trouble and finish strongly.”

Driver Quotes

Andy Meyrick, car #85: “The 24-hour race at the Nürburgring is definitely the most gruelling of our calendar this year, but I’m really excited about the challenge. We’ve worked really hard in the VLN rounds to develop a setup for the Continental GT3 that will work well, but the race is very unpredictable. A lot of our competitors have been coming here for years, but we’ll learn quickly and push as hard as we can for a good finish.”

Christian Menzel, car #84: “Everyone who has raced at the ‘Ring before knows what a unique adventure this race is. While Bentley’s experience here is limited, the team have scored some great results in the VLN races, and both the car and the team are ready for it. I’m confident that we can be quick, but the most important thing is to be careful and stay out of trouble – and for that we’ll need some luck!”

Waterfest Moves to Atco Dragway

Waterfest 24 will be held at Atco Dragway, in Atco, New Jersey. The summer event will take place at its new venue on July 21 and 22. Long held in Englishtown, New Jersey, the festival has been such a large part of the VW scene that the latest iteration of the Golf even comes with optional “Englishtown” wheels . The new venue, however, is an NHRA drag track a scant 52 miles southwest of Englishtown. The ¼ mile drag track opened in 1960, which makes it the oldest drag strip in New Jersey. The announcement came today on a social media post that announced the new location. Waterfest is North America’s largest VW/Audi show. As many 20,000 people show up for the annual show, making the second largest show in the world—with Worthersee being number one. 2018 will be Waterfest’s 24 th year in existence. Macau Gets Messy with 16-Car Pileup

The Macau Grand Prix is always good for an accident or two or 16— you may remember Audi’s race ending crash last year —and this year’s event didn’t disappoint. It didn’t take long for things to get messy on the tight road circuit. On the opening lap of the qualifying race a 16-car pileup caused the race to be suspended. Things kicked off when Daniel Juncadella hit a wall on the exit of Police bend, one of the tightest parts of the already tight circuit. The following car of Raffaele Marciello was able to avoid the carnage, but Laurens Vanthoor, who was in the upside-down Audi that ended the race last year, could not avoid Juncadella and together they blocked up the road pretty much completely. “I couldn’t see him [Juncadella] at first. Then I saw the car standing still,” Vanthoor told Motorsport. “I tried to brake but it was just understeering and I couldn’t do anything. There’s room for one car there and you’re blind.” Fourteen more cars would eventually crash into the corner c

The First of its Kind: Integrated Engineering Releases Highly-Anticipated IE450T MK6 Golf R Turbo Kit

After two long years of development, the team at Integrated Engineering has finally announced the release of their IE450T kit for the MK6 Golf R. With their turbo kit bolted on right out of the box, the sport AWD hatch is transformed into a 450bhp monster, with hardly any noticeable increase in spool time. In fact, 435 ft-lbs of torque are achieved at all four wheels, at a mere 3300rpm! By now you are probably asking yourself how this is even possible on a 2.0L engine that made nearly half that power from the factory. By employing true twin-scroll technology into the cast turbo manifold and pairing it with a state-of-the-art BorgWarner EFR turbocharger, IE was able to keep spool time at a minimum and bring the fastest-spooling big turbo setup to the market. “We wanted to offer a kit that would dramatically increase the power output without making the car lose its amazing street-friendly drivability,” mentioned one of the IE engineers. We are told the IE450T leaves the car driving jus
