Find of the Day: Canadian Coupe, Eh

Our latest Find of the Day comes to us from the northern half of North America: Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. For those unfamiliar, Winnipeg is above Minnesota and North Dakota. Now you might expect cars from this area to have a fair amount of rust due to the weather, but not this 1984 Jetta coupe.

Wait a minute: Jetta coupe?! Yes, Volkswagen did make first and second generation Jetta models with only two doors. Depending on the market, the MKI coupes came with gas or diesel engines. VW even offered a 2 door GLI in some markets. Volkswagen positioned the sedan upmarket from the Golf, so all Jettas received fancier trim, seat upholstery, and even nicer hubcaps and trim rings.

This 1984 two-door sedan is quite attractive. The exterior looks like a brand new car. There are no dents or dings and the paint is in great shape. All trim is in place. The body panels line up nicely. Even the bumpers are unmolested.

Inside, this little Jetta looks fresh off the showroom floor. The blue velour interior is immaculate. The dash and door panels are in great shape. It has a flawless headliner. And there are some thick rubber floormats to catch any dirt. While the photos show a missing radio, the description says a new head unit and speakers were recently installed. Did we mention it’s an automatic? Well there, we just did. Pop the hood and you’ll see a very clean engine bay. The ad states some mechanical work has been done recently: new distributor cap and rotor, new CV boots, tie rods, and a few other things.

The owner has done a few upgrades. The most obvious are the 15″ wheels from a third generation Jetta. The grille has either been replaced with a red stripe one from a GLI, or someone got a little adventurous with the red paint. GLI-style stripes run down the sides of the car, but they may be standard equipment on these coupes as shown in the (included) owner’s manual and sales brochures.

Cleanliness comes with a price. The seller is asking $7,250 Canadian for the car. Check out the classified ad on Kijiji.ca, eh.

2018 Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster Review

PZM 73rd Rally Poland Kicks Off

The WRC is in Poland and after only one stage there are three Volkswagens in the top five. Today’s special stage at the Mikolajki Arena is the first stage, but the rally doesn’t begin in earnest until Friday. Today’s super special stage was less than two minutes long, and less than a second separates the top five drivers. Hyundai Motorsport’s Thierry Neuville tops the charts today, followed closely by Volkswagen’s Andreas Mikkelsen. Sebastien Ogier and Jari-Matti Latvala are in fourth and fifth, respectively. Expect Ogier to climb the rankings, though. Not only did he win the rally last year, he has won every year since 2013.
