The American Won’t Continue on The Grand Tour

The fourth The Grand Tour host, The American, won’t return for the Amazon show’s second season.

In a tweet, former The American and NASCAR driver, Mike Skinner announced that he wouldn’t join Richard Hammond, Jeremy Clarkson, and James May for the show’s second season.

The segment caught criticism from fans for being a little over the top and it seems that Skinner agreed, tweeting: “and I agree with many of you that it sucked.”

Although he was unhappy with the character and made it sound on Twitter like leaving the show was his decision, Skinner was graceful in his Tweets, writing that he wished the show and its hosts luck, adding that “driving the shit out of those cars is fun, still is and I’m damn old.”

Skinner raced in NASCAR’s Cup Series, and the World Truck Series, among other racing endeavors.

Just who will replace The American as The Grand Tour’s season 2 resident hot shoe remains to be seen, but it’s only one of the changes we’re expecting. Rather than roaming the globe in a tent, the hosts will now have a permanent base in the UK, not far from Clarkson’s house, and May will have short hair. How we’ll get used to it, I know not.

You can watch all of the unAmerican, short haired adventures on Amazon Prime when the season premieres on December 8.

ItalDesign is drumming up excitement for its new supercar based around the same 5.2-liter Audi V10 that powers the R8. Naturally, it hit the road for a cruise around California last week to celebrate Monterey Car Week.
