Shortly after the debut of the all-new road-going Bentley Continental, the British automaker has pulled the wraps off of its all-new Continental GT3 racecar.
The new Continental GT3 is currently being developed and will be ready-to-race for the 2018 season. This is the second-generation of the Continental GT3, with the previous iteration of the rather large racecar having scored 120 podiums and 45 wins in 528 races entered. The Continental may look a bit big and cumbersome, but its on-track performance in GT3 guise is not to be underestimated.
Technical details on the Continental GT3 were not divulged, but it will likely receive power from Bentley’s new 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine. The package will be made to adhere to global GT3 regulations, so statistics such as power output won’t be available for a little while longer. It’s also not clear which teams plan on fielding the new Continental GT3 next season. Teams that ran the previous version included Dyson Racing, M-Sport and Bentley Team Abt.
“After four years of success with our Continental GT3, we’re excited to reveal our second-generation car,” said Bentley motorsport director, Brian Gush. “The new car leaves no area or system untouched in the search for even better performance, and the early test results are promising. The new Continental GT road car has proved to be a great starting point for the development of a new racer, and the engineering development work is true to Bentley’s impeccable standards.”
Look for the new Bentley Continental GT3 to appear on-track in various racing series starting next year.
