Volkswagen’s latest diesel and gas cars (Euro 6 compliant 2015-2016 models) received top ratings in a new independent test from England’s Emissions Analytics.
In the test, called the EQUA Air Quality Index, cars are given a rating of A to H, depending on how clean they are, based on their emissions of nitrogen oxides. The test is performed with the use of an onboard gas analyser that measures what’s coming out of the exhaust pipe, second-by-second.
Volkswagen Group’s cars consistently perform well on the test, with only a scant few achieving anything lower than an A.
The tests are conducted on a proprietary route that covers a mix of urban and rural driving that is designed to reflect typical driving styles. Emissions Analytics argues that its tests reflect real driving styles and therefore real emissions better than official government data.
All of the A-rated diesel cars on sale today are from the Volkswagen Group, with the Audi A5, Skoda Superb, and Golf SV topping the list. You can the read the full list here.
