Volkswagen’s brand chief, Herbert Diess, was in Las Vegas this weekend discussing the brand’s future in America. Diess dispelled the rumor that VW would be pulling out of the American market, reaffirming the brand’s plans to launch two crossovers next year.
Automotive News Europe reports that dealers came away from the Las Vegas meeting convinced that VW would continue to pursue the objectives championed by the much-loved former Volkswagen of America CEO, Michael Horn.
“I would title the meeting ‘We’re working on it,'” says Steve Kalafer, a dealer from New Jersey.
Although volume targets weren’t discussed in the meeting, Diess did say that VW wants to “grow the volume consistently above past levels” in the US.
“We’re looking forward to really managing through the crisis and then really relaunching the brand and looking at a much more positive future,” Diess told reporters after the Las Vegas meeting.
Automotive News Europe also reports that VW will sending another 20,000 more Tiguan and Beetle units to the US this year than were originally planned. They also report that 75,000 Golf SportWagen Alltracks will be sent next year, following an initial shipment of 15,000 units for the car’s fourth quarter launch.
