Auto Zeitung just announced that it would be presenting its prestigious “Design Trophy 2016,” in the SUV category, to the new Volkswagen Tiguan. The annual event has five categories (City-car, compact car, limousines and vans, SUVs, and Sportwagen) and readers decide which design is the best.
The new Tiguan, which was introduced in September at the Frankfurt auto show, faced some pretty stiff competition this year. In the SUV category alone it beat 14 competitors to win the Design Trophy.
The new model is longer, wider, and lower now that it’s on the MQB platform, all of which means that along with the new look there is also more interior space and cargo capacity. According to VW, its elegant design “radiates power and authority.”
The new Tiguan is only available in Europe for the time being, but VW is suggesting that, thanks to the highly configurable platform, the US model will have an even longer wheel base when it arrives.
