Benjamin Leuchter of Racing One earned fought his way up to second place in the inaugural ADAC TCR race, at Oschersleben. His strong performance in Saturday’s race is the first ever podium for the new Golf GTI TCR, which was specifically designed to be raced in Touring Car Racing.
“I am mega happy,” said Leuchter after the race. “This is the first ever podium for the Golf GTI TCR. This makes me personally proud.”
Leuchter started race 1 in seconds place, and following a strong start took the lead on the first corner. He couldn’t keep Josh Files behind him, though, and managed to finish second.
Leuchter started the weekend’s second race considerably farther down the grid, in 8th. Again, though, the German showed his race pace, making his way up through the field and finishing the race in 4th.
Thanks to his strong qualifying performance and his race results, Leuchter finishes the weekend in second place in the driver’s championship. His team, Racing One, is also ranked second, despite only fielding one driver.
The next race is at Sachsenring on April 29. Watch the full first race below. Or just watch the first minute to see a pretty big accident.
