Aron Smith Leads BTCC Independent’s Table in Passat CC

This weekend marked the opening round of the British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch. The weekend proved positive for Team BKR, racing VW Passat CCs, as driver Aron Smith ended the weekend with a podium finish and first place among drivers for independent teams.

“I’m over the moon with the way this weekend has gone,” says BKR driver, Aron Smith. “The work that both BKR and Team BMR have put in to get us to this point has just been phenomenal, and I really can’t thank everyone enough – particularly Warren Scott. It’s no exaggeration to say that without him, we would not be here. He’s done an amazing job. Everybody at BKR is so enthusiastic, and that excitement is infectious.”

Smith finished the second race, his best, in third place, more than a second ahead of fourth. The Irishman finished in 7th and 8th in the weekend’s other two races. His strong performances put him in fourth place overall so far this season, and give him the lead among drivers for independent teams.

I’ve never really been one for SUVs and crossovers. The current offerings aren’t the body-on-frame, go-anywhere specialty tools I remember from my youth, and what they lack in capability, they also lack in on-road performance.
