The TCR International Series had its first race of the season this weekend, and it was a promising start for the new Golf GTI TCR. Team Engstler’s Davit Kajaia finished the weekend’s second race in fourth place, just narrowly missing the podium.
The event took place at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir. The racing was intense and Pepe Oriola, racing a SEAT, ended the weekend with two race wins and first place overall in the championship. Kajaia, meanwhile, finishes the weekend in sixth place overall.
Kajaia finished fourth in the weekend’s second 10-lap heat, which was a big improvement over the first race, in which he finished ninth. Sweden’s Stefano Comini, racing for Leopard Racing had the best performing GTI TCR of that race, finishing in seventh.
The Golf GTI TCRs will return to the track later this month in Estoril Portugal.
