SANT’AGATA BOLOGNESE, Italy– The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America series is taking the raging bull to the Northeast for the next two rounds of racing June 25-27 at historic Watkins Glen International with another large grid of 22 cars.

The North American series, in its third season, will compete at the iconic circuit in the scenic Finger Lakes region of upstate New York for the second time. It’s the first time at The Glen for the new Lamborghini Huracán LP 620-2, which made its debut in the series during the first two rounds of racing this season in May at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

The 11-turn, 3.4-mile circuit in Watkins Glen, New York, includes “The Boot,” one of the most famous turn complexes in North American racing. Two 50-minute races are scheduled for competitors in the incredible Huracán, which is powered by a 620-horsepower V10 engine, and the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo cars.

Round 3 is scheduled for 5:25 p.m. (ET) Friday, June 26, with Round 4 scheduled for 5:35 p.m. Saturday, June 27. Two practices will take place Thursday, June 25, with qualifying Friday, June 26.

The two rounds at Watkins Glen cap a busy week of action worldwide for the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo championship, which continues to reach new levels of success at every round in Europe, North America and Asia. The European Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo completed Rounds 5 and 6 June 19-21 at Circuit Paul Ricard at Le Castellet, France, and Super Trofeo Asia opened its 2015 season June 20-21 at Fuji International Raceway in Japan.

After the first two rounds of the North American championship, Richard Antinucci leads the Pro Driver Classification with 30 points after the first two rounds of the North America championship. Antinucci, racing for O’Gara Motorsports in the No. 50 Lamborghini Huracán, won Round 1 and finished second in Round 2 at Laguna Seca

Cedric Sbirrazzuoli, winner of Round 2, and his co-driver, Lawrence DeGeorge, will challenge Antinucci. DeGeorge is making his Super Trofeo debut. Sbirrazzuoli leads the Pro-Am driver classification with 30 points.

Antinucci and Sbirrazzuoli will face competition from reigning driver champion Kevin Conway and his co-driver, Enrique Bernoldi, in the No. 1 Prestige Performance Huracán, along with Corey Lewis in the No. 29 Lamborghini Huracán. Both teams ran at the top of the field in the first two rounds with each collecting an overall podium finish.

The father-son duo of Jim and Josh Norman lead the Amateur class with 27 points. They finished first and second in the first two rounds, respectively, in the Amateur class.

Dylan Murcott leads the drivers in the Gallardo class, with Thomas Pichler behind him in the No. 63 STR Gallardo entry representing Lamborghini Dallas. The two split wins at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

The Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo adopts the V10 direct injection engine mounted on the road car, managed by a Motec control unit that delivers a maximum output of 620 horsepower. The frame is a hybrid carbon/aluminum construction with modified geometries to house an improved radiator up front and better accommodate the racing gearbox at the rear, which also provides better aerodynamics.

The 570-horsepower, V10 Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo features impressive technology such as paddle shift E-gear transmission, Öhlins race shocks, Brembo brakes, a carbon fiber aerodynamic package that includes a rear wing with 10 adjustable positions, MTA data acquisition, air jacks, center wheel locks and more.

Lamborghini and its dealers entertain VIP guests at every Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America in the Lamborghini and Blancpain Village, which features lavish hospitality and amenities.

Highlights from Rounds 3 and 4 will be televised from 10-11 p.m. (ET) Wednesday, July 8 on CBS Sports Network as part of a series television package unveiled this week that features coverage of all 12 rounds this season and the World Final at Sebring International Raceway. Project SportWagen: Going Stage 2 with APR

When we last left you, the humble little SportWagen was fresh from the development process with our friends at AWE Tuning, sporting a new downpipe, exhaust and intake, allowing things to breathe a bit easier.  The car sounded great, but there was no getting around the fact that our wagon was still quite, well, slow.   While we realize that nothing we do to the Golf SportWagen at this point will make it a race car, we still felt compelled to do something .  To put it bluntly, we had a fever, and the only cure was more power. Flash forward a few hours, and we found ourselves at Waterfest, staring down APR’s palatial spread and the numerous tuned vehicles surrounding it.  Earlier in the year, APR had hinted to us that their 1.8 TSI files would be quite impressive, and based on what they were able to do with the 2.0 TSI found in the new GTI and our time in their Golf R, we knew it’d be worth the wait.  So with this in mind, we lined our G...

Volkswagen Group Records Best Ever First-Half-of-Year Sales

With 5.5 million vehicles in customer hands after the first six months of 2018, the Volkswagen Group is seeing the best performance of its history. Group deliveries increased significantly in all core regions,” said Fred Kappler, head of sales for the Group. “Our core brands recorded strong growth in the first half year.” For the year-to-date, all of Volkswagen’s brands had sales bumps. MAN, SEAT, and Skoda led the sales charge with performances 24%, 17% and 11% better than the previous year. The big sellers, too, had strong sales periods, with Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Audi, and Volkswagen sales rising 3.5%, 4.5% and 6.3% respectively. That last figure is particularly good new for the board, since Volkswagen alone sold more than 3 million vehicles in the first half of 2018. As Kappler stated, the numbers are equally good when you break sales down by region. Brazil and Russia were the most improved markets (22% and 20%, respectively), while strong sales in Europe and China (u...

Project Golf SportWagen- Intro

I’ve never really been one for SUVs and crossovers.  The current offerings aren’t the body-on-frame, go-anywhere specialty tools I remember from my youth, and what they lack in capability, they also lack in on-road performance. The current crop isn’t terribly good at handling or being efficient, which in my opinion are major components of our ideal driving experience.  So when it comes to space or utility, I usually look for something of the wagon variety- and it seems that I’m not alone. We hit quite a few shows around the east coast each summer, and we see modified Jetta SportWagens at nearly every event. Even amongst common consumers, these cars are highly sought-after. They don’t depreciate much, making even early Mk 5 2.5 versions expensive in comparison to other Jettas or Golfs of the same vintage. This year, Volkswagen launched their latest SportWagen, which is now billed as a Golf.  In many ways, this latest SportWagen is the best yet and it has certai...
