According to a piece published by Bild, Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn has announced that the Volkswagen Group will bring a ‘budget’ car to market, as it is seen as a key component of future success for the company. The model will be first available in China at a price point less than 10,000EUR, and eventually will become available throughout the Asian market. Depending on success, the model may eventually become available in other select countries as well.
Winterkorn says that the upcoming budget car has been in development for quite some time, because the model will need to retain the quality and comfort that Volkswagen has become known for. As the car will be built in China, we expect to see an all-new subcompact model as opposed to the heritage models that are available in certain markets.
