Gallery: 290 HP SEAT Ateca Spied Testing in Spain

Our trusty spy photographers have just sent over pictures of the latest hot SUV, Spain’s SEAT Ateca Cupra. With roughly 290 hp, quad pipes, and bigger wheels and brakes this Spanish beast is sure to impress.

Power comes from the same 2.0-liter mill that powers the SEAT Leon Cupra (read: Spanish Golf GTI Clubsport). To signal its upped output, the Ateca will wear a fancy new body kit and gets some red stitching inside.

The spicy SUV is relevant to our interests here, because it shares the same platform as the Tiguan, of which our photographers caught a similarly tuned version testing at the Nurburgring recently.

Unfortunately, such an SUV is fairly unlikely here as we North Americans are only getting the Tiguan long wheel base, which shares more in common with the Skoda Kodiaq, than the SEAT Ateca. But who knows what the R brand mastermind, Hendrick Muth, has planned for us.

PZM 73rd Rally Poland Kicks Off

The WRC is in Poland and after only one stage there are three Volkswagens in the top five. Today’s special stage at the Mikolajki Arena is the first stage, but the rally doesn’t begin in earnest until Friday. Today’s super special stage was less than two minutes long, and less than a second separates the top five drivers. Hyundai Motorsport’s Thierry Neuville tops the charts today, followed closely by Volkswagen’s Andreas Mikkelsen. Sebastien Ogier and Jari-Matti Latvala are in fourth and fifth, respectively. Expect Ogier to climb the rankings, though. Not only did he win the rally last year, he has won every year since 2013.
