Following the TDI emissions scandal, questions about whether or not Audi and Volkswagen would ever bring diesels back to America arose. Audi of America president Scott Keogh has suggested, through, that the Q7 TDI could come back.
“Once we hopefully get past everything, I see an opportunity for potentially, probably to offer it on one model, and that model would probably be the Q7 SUV,” Keogh told Reuters on Wednesday. “It’s the one model that makes the most sense.”
Although TDI once made up seven percent of Audi’s sales, Keogh said that even before the emissions scandal, tightening diesel regulations meant that Audi and Volkswagen were preparing to move away from the technology.
Keogh’s assertions match president of Volkswagen Group of America Hinirch J Woebcken’s predictions that TDI sales will never return to pre-scandal numbers.
