Volkswagen debuted the 2017 e-Golf today at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The new all electric hatchback boasts 50% more range as well as more power and torque. It’s the first chance Americans will have to see the updated Mk7.5 Golf that premiered last week in Germany.
And the updates to the new Golf are… well, predictably minor. The new Golf looks an awful lot like the current one, albeit with slightly better looking lights and fascia.
As with the traditionally powered Mk7.5 Golf, the 2017 e-Golf’s beauty is more than skin deep, though. A new battery with 10 more kwh of capacity allows the e-Golf to go more than 120 miles on a charge. More power and torque also mean a 0-60 time that’s a full second faster than the outgoing model.
The new e-Golf will also feature a larger infotainment screen which will come with gesture control. That particular feature may not be available until 2018, but the possibility exists that it will come in 2017. More on that when it’s available.
Along with the new e-Golf, the new Volkswagen Atlas seven seat SUV made its auto show debut. The all new SUV drove out onto the stage filled with NBA legends Kareem Abdul Jabbar and James Worthy to highlight its wealth of interior space.
