Nearly $25 Billion and 120,000 jobs is how much a new Ernst & Young study finds Volkswagen Group of America and its dealers contribute to the US economy in 2015.
The study counts the number of people hired by Volkswagen to work at, say, the Chattanooga plant or in corporate offices (45,000), as well as indirect jobs created by VW at suppliers and the like (74,000). The expansion of the Chattanooga plant alone, though, created 1,600 new jobs.
The more than 900 dealerships and the 56 corporate offices, meanwhile contributed more than $2.4 billion in state and federal taxes. Moreover, Volkswagen donated more than $4.3 million to 122 organizations in 2015.
“The Ernst & Young study shows the broad reach and impact of VWGoA’s operations,” said Hinrich J. Woebcken, CEO of VGoA. “We are tremendously proud of the positive impact we’ve had on the U.S. economy thus far, and are confident that our long-term investments in this market will continue to benefit communities throughout the nation.”
The study was commissioned by Volkswagen and completed by Ernst & Young. The results were announced today at the 2016 AutoConference in LA.
