What happens when an Up! GTI, a Polo GTI, a Golf GTI, and a Golf GTI Clubsport S go head to head? This may seem like a foregone conclusion.
The biggest one, making the most horsepower–the Clubsport S–should always win. But if you have a DSG going up against someone with bad reaction times in a manual, you can some pretty surprising results, as this video shows.
Despite making 55 more hp, the Clubsport S screws up a shift and ends up crossing the line just behind the regular GTI Performance.
It’s a surprising result, but one that reminds us all horsepower and torque are no substitute for good driving. Unless you’re in a rolling race, then horsepower is a pretty good defence against poor reaction times.
