Bugatti has an uncontrollable urge to make a new limited edition car that it will call the Divo. Named after driver Albert Divo, the car is apparently designed to make sure you can get satisfaction out of every corner.
“Happiness is not around the corner. It is the corner. The Divo is made for corners,” says Stephan Winkelmann, Bugatti president. “With the Divo, we want to thrill people throughout the world. With this project, the Bugattiteam has an opportunity to interpret the brand DNA in terms of agile, nimble handling in a significantly more performance-oriented way.”
Bugatti will whip its Divo into shape (whip it good) by making it lighter and adding more downforce to ensure that the driver can properly enjoy every corner.
Following the Chiron’s naming conventions, the car is named after French driver Albert Divo, who won the Targa Florio twice in the ’20s while driving Bugattis. The name, therefore, is meant to evoke the speed and handling performance of that event.
While little is known about the car, Bugatti has promised less weight and more downforce to improve agility and says that it harkens back to the brand’s coach-building tradition, suggesting that it will be based on an existing chassis.
The brand is still promising distinctive styling, though, and it will only make 40 Divos. As you might expect, the price will reflect the rarity. Bugatti has announced that it will charge buyers 5 million euros for the Divo, which will premiere at The Quail, during Monterey car week.
