Volkswagen’s decision to focus on SUVs is proving a smart one, with the Atlas and the Tiguan buoying sales last month, yet again.
Monthly sales in June were up nearly 6 percent, as compared to June 2017. That sales hike came despite the Golf, the Jetta, and the Passat’s sales each tumbling by nearly 40%.
With sales of the Atlas rising nearly 50% in June, and more than 600% for the year to date (a figure helped by the Atlas’s release schedule), and sales of the Tiguan better still, VW’s product planners will be pleased with their work.
While Atlas sales totaled 3,600 in June, buyers’ desire for Tiguan was deeper still, with more than 7,000 selling in June alone. Only the Jetta, despite its tumbling sales, could match it, with sales also totaling more than 7,000. Its sales are also expected to rise, though, as momentum builds with the new model.
