Volkswagen is launching a new mini-SUV, with the tiny T-Cross crossover coming later this year. It could debut at the Paris auto show this fall.
That’s according to Auto Express. They are reporting that the T-Cross will arrive in the second half of this year at the Paris show. If it debuts by the September Paris show, then it could be on sale by the end of this year.
The T-Cross will sit below the T-Roc (pictured) in the VW lineup, in the growing supermini crossover class. It’s a stylish design that should prove popular in the segment, which puts style over function and any pretense of off-road prowess.
The basis of the T-Cross will be the Polo but expect it to be slightly bigger than that car, and definitely taller. It will sit on the MQB chassis that underpins most current Volkswagens including the Polo, Passat, and Tiguan.
With that chassis, expect lots of gas, and diesel options, depending on where you live. VW’s new 1.0L turbo-triple that makes from 65 to 115 hp in the Polo will likely be the core engine, with the Polo’s 1.6L TDI optional. Don’t expect all-wheel drive, as the Polo doesn’t offer it. Performance buyers might hold hope for a GTI model, though. The Polo’s 200 hp 2.0L turbo-four should fit just as well under the hood of the T-Cross.
