Footballer Max Kruse is working toward the premier leagues of auto racing, fielding a Golf GTI TCR in the ADAC TCR Germany series for 2018.
Kruse plays for Werder Bremen in the top German soccer league, the Bundesliga. He has started his own racing team, the logically named Max Kruse Racing.
The team launched earlier this month and has signed touring car star Benjamin Leuchter to be the team’s driver. Leuchter was in the Golf GTI TCR that won at the 24H Dubai earlier this month. He is also a factory instructor at the Volkswagen Driving Experience.
You may remember Leuchter from his record-breaking lap of the Nurburgring in VW’s Golf GTI Clubsport S.
Kruse and Leuchter visited Volkswagen in Hannover to take delivery of the first GTI TCR to come off the assembly line this year.
The TCR ruleset was introduced in 2015 and has grown to see more than 20 national and regional championships. The ADAC TCR Germany series starts April 15th in Oschersleben. Leuchter won the TCR class last year in the VLN Endurance Championship as well as at the Nürburgring 24 Hour.
