Atlas Prices Rise $250 in 2018

Volkswagen dropped the prices of the compact Tiguan last week, but it’s doing the opposite to the larger Atlas SUV.

The base-model Atlas 2.0T S is now $31,675 including destination. That’s up $250 from the old price. The new prices came in with a quiet change earlier this month. Volkswagen isn’t giving buyers any extra content or features to go with that price increase.

The price applies to all trims of the Atlas, and it further separates the Atlas from the Tiguan on the pricing sheets. The Tiguan S is now $850 further away from the Atlas S. The two are now separated by $6,180.

The pricing changes also put the 2018 Atlas closer to the $50,000 mark. An Atlas V6 SEL Premium 4Motion is now $49,415 before adding any options.

The differences in pricing strategy are likely related to sales. The new Tiguan was selling more slowly than the previous model. But the bigger and U.S.-centric Atlas is selling massively better than the Touareg it replaced. The 6,070 Atlas crossover VW sold in December beats Touareg sales for all of 2016 and nearly tops the 2015 figures.

Waterfest Moves to Atco Dragway

Waterfest 24 will be held at Atco Dragway, in Atco, New Jersey. The summer event will take place at its new venue on July 21 and 22. Long held in Englishtown, New Jersey, the festival has been such a large part of the VW scene that the latest iteration of the Golf even comes with optional “Englishtown” wheels . The new venue, however, is an NHRA drag track a scant 52 miles southwest of Englishtown. The ¼ mile drag track opened in 1960, which makes it the oldest drag strip in New Jersey. The announcement came today on a social media post that announced the new location. Waterfest is North America’s largest VW/Audi show. As many 20,000 people show up for the annual show, making the second largest show in the world—with Worthersee being number one. 2018 will be Waterfest’s 24 th year in existence.
