Soon to become the first choice of nervous drivers everywhere, Volkswagen has earned top spot in three classes in this year’s Euro NCAP annual “Best in Class” list.
“Star ratings cannot be compared directly between different categories of vehicles,” writes Euro NCAP. “So a ‘Best in Class’ is published showing which vehicles have performed better than their competitors.”
Leading all automakers, the brand earned best in class honors in three of a possible seven classes. The T-Roc, Polo, and Arteon are all among Europe’s safest cars.
All three earned 5-star ratings from the European crash safety testers, and all earned 96% in adult occupant safety and 85% or more in child occupant safety.
Whereas the Arteon excelled in the Executive class, the T-Roc was the best car in the Small Off-Road class and the Polo earned the top spot in the Supermini category.
They were joined by the Subaru Impreza (Small Family Car), the Subaru XV (Small Family Car again, somehow), the Vauxhall Crossland X (Small MPV), and the Volvo XC60 (Large Off-Road).
This year wasn’t all about excellence, though. Euro NCAP also awarded (I use the term wrongly) its first ever 0-star rating to Fiat’s Punto.
