Porsche has turned its Mission E into a lifted wagon to bring us the Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo, a concept that just debuted at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show.
This four-door, four-seat, all-wheel-drive fully electric crossover is able to charge via an 800-volt fast charger or inductive charging. The panel where PORSCHE is spelled out on the rear of the car lights up and when charging, the E pulsates and the lights do a little dance. The driving range is touted at about 250 miles (400 km) on a full charge and the battery can be charged in just over 15 minutes.
Because it’s a Porsche first, performance is still a priority. The Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo Concept is powered by two electric motors (one for each axle) that combine for a total system output of 600 horsepower, rocketing the EV to 62 mph in 3.5 seconds, which is non-Ludicrous Speed Tesla Model X territory. The concept has an air suspension that can increase ground clearance by up to nearly 2 inches (50 mm) and active roll stabilization for better cornering.
In terms of technology, the concept’s infotainment system has nearly no buttons (all screens are touch capacitive) and has gaze tracking that can tell which areas of the screens the driver and passenger are looking at. The system uses cameras and brings the app they are looking at to the foreground to reduce distractions.
[See image gallery at www.vwvortex.com]This concept takes a lot of inspiration from the Panamera wagon but is lifted for larger ground clearance and has plastic body cladding to protect against damage during off-roading. It admittedly looks bit odd, especially with the blue rims and chunky off-road tires, but the purpose is to show that Porsche is committed to electric cars and will likely follow up its Mission E sport sedan with an electric crossover.
