Find Of The Day: Cold Caddy

Our latest Find of the Day is a tiny trucklet with a big heart. This MK1 Volkswagen Caddy can be the perfect addition to your garage.

By modern standards, the Volkswagen Pickup, as it was officially named, is an odd vehicle. Small trucks were all the rage in the early 80s, and VW engineers found a quick (and probably cheap) way to get a utility vehicle on the road. Quite simply, they lopped off the back of standard Rabbits, then grafted on a six-foot bed. They stretched the wheelbase of the Pickup nine inches to place the wheels closer to the center of the cargo bed. And just like the Rabbit, the Pickup was front wheel drive.

Buyers had their choice of gas and diesel engines, and there were multiple trim levels and special editions, including the Sportruck with bold side graphics. While it wasn’t designed for hardcore work, the light-duty Pickup found quite a few buyers. Between 1980 and 1984, Volkswagen sold over 75,000 Pickups.

This 1982 Pickup, or Caddy as enthusiasts call them, looks like it hasn’t seen a day of work in its life. Ice White paint gives it a very clean look. It has dual-round headlights, grille, and the front bumper from a later Cabriolet. A killer ragtop sunroof sits atop the cab. And it looks like there’s a rectangle side exhaust.

There’s a spray-on bed liner in the back, and massive speakers mounted behind the cab. Open the rear sliding window to keep things cool. The truck sits on Raceland coilovers, and there’s a Neuspeed strut brace up front. The replica BBS wheels painted in contrasting black finish off the clean look.

Under the hood, there’s a 2.0-liter 16-valve engine with four R1 motorcycle carbs. This larger engine bolted into the very lightweight Caddy body has to make for a hell of a drive. It even has manual steering so you can feel that much more connected to the road.

Inside you’ll find a GTI dash, Recaro seats, a MOMO steering wheel, and much more. In fact, there’s far more listed in the ad than we can cover here.

If you’re looking for a unique ride, this cool Caddy could be just the thing. You can see the car yourself in Hudson Wisconsin. Check out the ad on TheSamba.com. The seller is asking a reasonable $8700.

Macau Gets Messy with 16-Car Pileup

The Macau Grand Prix is always good for an accident or two or 16— you may remember Audi’s race ending crash last year —and this year’s event didn’t disappoint. It didn’t take long for things to get messy on the tight road circuit. On the opening lap of the qualifying race a 16-car pileup caused the race to be suspended. Things kicked off when Daniel Juncadella hit a wall on the exit of Police bend, one of the tightest parts of the already tight circuit. The following car of Raffaele Marciello was able to avoid the carnage, but Laurens Vanthoor, who was in the upside-down Audi that ended the race last year, could not avoid Juncadella and together they blocked up the road pretty much completely. “I couldn’t see him [Juncadella] at first. Then I saw the car standing still,” Vanthoor told Motorsport. “I tried to brake but it was just understeering and I couldn’t do anything. There’s room for one car there and you’re blind.” Fourteen more cars would eventually crash into the corner c

The First of its Kind: Integrated Engineering Releases Highly-Anticipated IE450T MK6 Golf R Turbo Kit

After two long years of development, the team at Integrated Engineering has finally announced the release of their IE450T kit for the MK6 Golf R. With their turbo kit bolted on right out of the box, the sport AWD hatch is transformed into a 450bhp monster, with hardly any noticeable increase in spool time. In fact, 435 ft-lbs of torque are achieved at all four wheels, at a mere 3300rpm! By now you are probably asking yourself how this is even possible on a 2.0L engine that made nearly half that power from the factory. By employing true twin-scroll technology into the cast turbo manifold and pairing it with a state-of-the-art BorgWarner EFR turbocharger, IE was able to keep spool time at a minimum and bring the fastest-spooling big turbo setup to the market. “We wanted to offer a kit that would dramatically increase the power output without making the car lose its amazing street-friendly drivability,” mentioned one of the IE engineers. We are told the IE450T leaves the car driving jus
