Volkswagen just revealed the I.D. Buzz concept in Detroit, an all-electric modern interpretation of the brand’s beloved microbus. But what if you wanted to go the other direction? Enter Mike “Hot Rod” Rowan.
Rowan decided that four cylinders are great, but twice as many is better, so he shoe-horned a big block Chevy V8 from a boat into the middle of his ’63 Type 2.
According to Hot Rod Rowan, the engine makes 586 hp, has a 150 shot of nitrous, and will pull 12s in the quarter mile, and it only took six weeks to slap together. But apparently the quarter mile isn’t all this van is good for. Rowan says he daily drives the van, which is a tiny bit of classic car heroism.
