VW Group Sees Record Sales in 2016

Despite the TDI scandal, Volkswagen AG managed to sell nearly 4% more cars in 2016 than they did the previous year. In all, the group delivered more than 10 million vehicles last year thanks to growing sales at nearly all brands.

The year was a victory, in particular, for the Volkswagen brand, which  started off bearing the brunt of the damage from dieselgate. Thanks to a strong fourth quarter, though, and strong figures in China and Europe, the brand still managed to sell nearly 3% more cars than it did in 2015.

Audi meanwhile, also did well in 2016, with sales rising 3.8%. The luxury brand did well globally, and particularly in America, where it has set seven straight years of sales records.

Meanwhile, Skoda performed very well this year, with sales increasing by nearly 7%. Although SEAT’s 2016 wasn’t quite as big, with an increase of only 2.6%, its December was excellent, selling 8% more vehicles than it did in December of 2015.

Porsche, too, had a remarkable last month of the year. December sales rose nearly 30%, giving them an  increase of 5.6% for the year.

“2016 was a very challenging year for us,”  said Matthias Muller, the group’s CEO. “Nonetheless, we managed to stabilize operating business in difficult conditions: the fact that we handed over more than 10 million vehicles to customers last year bolsters the Group and its brands as we head for the future.”

T-Prime Makes World Premiere at Beijing

With the new T-Prime Concept GTE that was revealed today, the company is showing off all of the technology you can look for in its coming models. The T-Prime is a full-size hybrid SUV that can go up to 31 miles on a charge and gets 87 mpg. The hybrid power station is good for 375 hp and 516 lb/ft of torque and puts the power down with 4MOTION all wheel drive. It’ll get you up to 60 in six seconds. The concept’s real party piece, though, is its interior, which features exclusively touch, gesture, and voice controls. Audi Teases the e-tron’s Headlights Ahead of LA Reveal

Audi will unveil its new electric car, the e-tron GT, in just a few short days, but until then, it will do what manufacturers can’t help but do and will tease it mercilessly. The latest teaser images first appeared on Germany’s Bild , and feature some of the EV’s lighting. While the taillights look reasonably familiar, albeit on an interesting, angular surface, the headlights feature a heretofore unseen light shape.
