A Random Number of the Sweetest Wheels from Detroit

Along with all the great cars present at this year’s Detroit auto show, there were also a bunch of wheels. At least four times as many and then some. Here, in no particular order, are some of the best and worst that graced the show floor.

Audi A5 Sportback. Audi and VW have long had some of the finest OEM wheels, and this year was no exception. The slashes on this 16 spoke wheel not only look great on their own, but on the car as well.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The Fuchs alloys on this widebody 911 at the Michelin booth are not only classics, they’re iconic. A classic 911 with anything else has to make a strong argument for itself.

Volvo has upped its game in general, but these wheels, featured on the V90 Cross Country are a fine example of just how upped their game has become.

Racecar is life. This NSX GT3‘s wheels are both purposeful and pretty.

The Golf R’s wheels aren’t really new, but they still look excellent. And bonus points for being perfectly aligned!

Vans. Boring in real life, exciting at auto shows. This Toyota Previa Sienna may have copped its color scheme from Subaru, but great artists steal, and all that.

And on to the worst:

Fisker makes some pretty stunning cars, but not everything they do is a hit. These four-spoke wheels, while arresting, sure ain’t pretty.

All electric/green cars. This Toyota’s wheels are a fine example of the future-baroque, highly ornamented, but ultimately really ugly wheels that are a bigger plague to green cars than smug license plates.

The wheels on this Maybach are (presumably) wildly expensive and also ugly. There’s no reason for that to be so.

Taken on their own, this Chevy Sonic‘s wheels actually aren’t all that bad, but in the context of the car, they prove that just adding black isn’t as foolproof as you might have thought.

T-Prime Makes World Premiere at Beijing

With the new T-Prime Concept GTE that was revealed today, the company is showing off all of the technology you can look for in its coming models. The T-Prime is a full-size hybrid SUV that can go up to 31 miles on a charge and gets 87 mpg. The hybrid power station is good for 375 hp and 516 lb/ft of torque and puts the power down with 4MOTION all wheel drive. It’ll get you up to 60 in six seconds. The concept’s real party piece, though, is its interior, which features exclusively touch, gesture, and voice controls. Everything from the infotainment, to the display, and even the gears are controlled by touch-screen. Audi Teases the e-tron’s Headlights Ahead of LA Reveal

Audi will unveil its new electric car, the e-tron GT, in just a few short days, but until then, it will do what manufacturers can’t help but do and will tease it mercilessly. The latest teaser images first appeared on Germany’s Bild , and feature some of the EV’s lighting. While the taillights look reasonably familiar, albeit on an interesting, angular surface, the headlights feature a heretofore unseen light shape.
