VW Thinks it has a Fix for its 3.0L Diesels

Volkswagen could avoid another round of costly buybacks thanks to a fix that they say they’ve found for their 3.0L TDI engine.

VW lawyer Robert Giuffra said at a hearing today that the fix VW thinks it has found is neither complicated nor will it negatively affect performance, reports Automotive News. The fix is still being tested to determine its durability, but if it passes, VW could solve this issue with a recall, potentially saving the company billions.

The 3.0L diesel was not part of the settlement that VW and government officials agreed to earlier this week, since it did not use the cheat device used on the 2.0L TDI engines. The 3.0L diesel, found in the Touareg, the Audi Q7 and more, instead used an undeclared auxiliary emissions-control device.

Justice Department lawyer, Joshua Van Eaton, said at a hearing today that talks and tests were being conducted to decide how best to proceed with the car and SUVs fitted with the 3.0L TDI.

US District Judge Charles Breyer, meanwhile, set no deadline for a 3.0L fix, but did set a hearing on August 25 to get a situation report.

Audi Teases the e-tron’s Headlights Ahead of LA Reveal

Audi will unveil its new electric car, the e-tron GT, in just a few short days, but until then, it will do what manufacturers can’t help but do and will tease it mercilessly. The latest teaser images first appeared on Germany’s Bild , and feature some of the EV’s lighting. While the taillights look reasonably familiar, albeit on an interesting, angular surface, the headlights feature a heretofore unseen light shape.
