Volkswagen Wins “Most Innovative Brand of 2016” Award from Plus X

The Tiguan, the Touran, the Phideon, the T-Cross Breeze, and the Budd-e all won innovation awards last night at the “Plus X Night 2026.” On top of that, Volkswagen were also named the Most Innovative Brand of 2016 and the Best Design Brand of the year.

Plus X is an association that awards consumer products and brands, a bit like J.D. Power, and every year they host an awards ceremony to honor the top brands. Volkswagen’s Head of Design, Klaus Bischoff, was on hand last night, getting his exercise in as he walked to the podium a number of times to pick up his awards, or quality seals as Plus X calls them.

Among the many seals bestowed on the brand’s vehicles, were “Product of the Year” seals, given to the Touran, the Tiguan, the Phideon, and the T-Cross Breeze.

“Innovation is not about any one aspect, innovation is a whole concept made up of efficiency, reliability and convenience,” wrote the Plus X jury of Volkswagen. “And innovation is particularly innovative when everyone can afford it. A duty that the Volkswagen brand acknowledges even in its name.”

PZM 73rd Rally Poland Kicks Off

The WRC is in Poland and after only one stage there are three Volkswagens in the top five. Today’s special stage at the Mikolajki Arena is the first stage, but the rally doesn’t begin in earnest until Friday. Today’s super special stage was less than two minutes long, and less than a second separates the top five drivers. Hyundai Motorsport’s Thierry Neuville tops the charts today, followed closely by Volkswagen’s Andreas Mikkelsen. Sebastien Ogier and Jari-Matti Latvala are in fourth and fifth, respectively.
