The European New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP) is the benchmark for European automotive safety and this year its tests have gotten even tougher, but that hasn’t stopped the new Tiguan from getting the highest possible rating of five stars.
Thanks to its suite of safety features, including optimized body structure, its wealth of airbags, and its driver assistance systems, the Tiguan achieved a 96% on the safety test for adults. For children, it achieved an impressive 84% of possible points. This is the first time that a test for back seat occupants has been conducted.
With standard ESC, Front Assist emergency braking, and lane assist systems, the new Tiguan also impressed in tests for pedestrian safety.
The new Tiguan has been available in Europe since May, and should come to the US next Spring.
