There’s no arguing with the fact that the Golf GTI Clubsport S is an extremely quick car. It has set the FWD lap record at the Nurburgring and wowed reviewers with its remarkable pace, but it’s never publicly been seen anywhere but on the so-called “green hell.”
Fortunately, there’s the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where the world’s best cars go, so naturally the Clubsport S had to be there.
Not only that, but the GTI Clubsport S ran up the 1.1 mile hill climb course with Jurgen Stackmann, board of management member for sales and marketing, at the wheel.
With only 400 Clubsports S slated for production, this was a great opportunity to win over Brits. Sadly, fewer than 150 of them will get to own the conqueror of the “green hell,” as only that many right-hand drive models are going there.
Joining the Clubsport S at Goodwood were two race cars. The first was a Mk1 GTI race car, while the second was a Volkswagen Motorsport Polo R WRC, which is likely already in Poland—blame UKIP—for the PZM Rally Poland this weekend.
The Polo R WRC was driven up the hill by Volkswagen Motorsport rally driver Jari-Matti Latvala, who is also probably playing on Polish dirt roads right now. Meanwhile the Mk1 GTI was driven by former F1 and Le Mans driver, Hans-Joachim Stuck.
