Audi just released the actually-quite-handsome new Q3. Now, though, it looks like there might be another version on the way.
Trademark filings from Europe, uncovered by Fourtitude, show drawings of a new Q3 with a new front end that looks a little like the old RS Q3’s and the RS Q5’s.
[See image gallery at www.vwvortex.com]The new front fascia introduces a grille that looks like it has more vertical spars and a lower grille section that looks a little less complicated.
It’s hard to tell, though, just how much that will actually change the appearance, since the patent filings don’t show any chrome.
What is certain to change are the “intakes” under the headlights. These are lower and wider, which has the effect of making the car look lower, wider, and meaner as well.
The rear bumper also changes to a more simplified design. Gone are the big, Lamborghini-esque air outlets in favor a slimmer design.
As is Audi’s more recent MO, there are no muffler tips, so there are no telltale oval exhaust tips. Nor is there a diffusor and this pictured Q3 appears to be the same width as a regular car, none of which particularly suggests RS.
Reports from Car and Driver, though, suggest that an RS Q3 is on the way (coming to America with the RS3’s five-pot). This does also look a lot like the S Q3, though, which we may have seen testing previously.
Whatever becomes of this patent application, it’s clear that Audi has something up it’s sleeve for the Q3.
