Volkswagen handed award-winning photographer Douglas Sonders an Arteon and asked him to shoot it for a new exhibition at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles.
Sonders has shot for a number of magazines, including Popular Mechanics and Time. In his spare time, he shoots original movie and TV cars with their owners.
For this shoot, Sonders worked with models Shelby Bay and Krislian Rodriguez and used a Phase One XF IQ3 100 megapixel medium format camera.

The Volkswagen Arteon has a beautiful modern edge, from the shoulder lines to the grille, and I wanted to do it justice.”
That shape inspired the synth wave aesthetic of the shoot and drew him to its location.
“I loved this space, and thought the symmetry and drama of the ceiling with the dark background worked well with the lines of the Arteon,” says Sonders.
Expect to see the Arteon in dealer show rooms late this year.
