The curious case of the crashed 959 has been getting a lot of traction online, to the degree that Road & Track actually did some investigating to figure out the full story (turns out the trailer it was on decoupled and crashed).
We all knew that it was going to auction. We all knew that it was one of just 249 Komforts made, and we all knew that it was kind of a sad, kind of a silly story. I did not know that it would sell for $467,500. And that that was still less than the estimates.
On the one hand, this is probably not a terrible investment. According to Hagerty, the average value of a 959 Komfort is just north of $1 million, so if you can fix this one for less than $530,000 you should be on the road Moneyville (better known as Monterey).
Still, though, there’s a lot of work to be done to make this 959 roadworthy again. And we don’t want to sound pessimistic, but 959 repairs likely aren’t cheap. But it’s one way to spend your money.
Or you could just buy three R8s have a few grand left over for activities and spare yourself the agony of listening to Bruce Canepa tell you how big your repair bill will be.
