Find Of The Day: Oh, The Places You’ll Haul

Here’s one for the wagon lovers. Not only is today’s Find Of The Day an avant, it also may be the first Passat we’ve featured. It’s ready to hit some car shows, or just cruise some back roads.

Wagon lovers are an interesting group; they’re a bit of a ‘counter-culture’ group amongst car lovers. They choose a wagon because they don’t want an SUV. They want the cargo capacity and a vehicle that handles like a car. Because it is a car. The fans find these cars sexy in a way that others don’t. Ask any wagon lover what they plan to lash to the roof rack, and they will answer immediately with a long list of items. And if it doesn’t have a rack, they don’t want it.

This 1993 Passat GLX has a roof rack. And a useful one at that with its OEM VW-logo sporting cross bars. Just think of all the things you can haul: bikes, kayaks, luggage, giant stuffed animals, furniture. The list is endless. The thing is, you’ll need to use the rack for hauling because the cargo area is already being used.

Yep, there in the back are the tanks and lines for the Airlift suspension. While this reduces room for your stuff, it increases your scene points when you slam this little wagon to the ground. And there’s limitless room for scene points in the rear.

This car not only hauls stuff, it also hauls *ss courtesy of the VR6 engine and manual transmission. This torquey and buttery smooth engine coupled with the airbag suspension will have you searching for curvy stretches of road. Haul stuff to the mountains. Haul stuff to the city. Haul stuff to the beach. Haul stuff to your nana’s house. You can haul all day long.

Inside there’s a rooftop box full of upgrades: Recaro LX-C Confetti seats, a (Nardi?) wood steering wheel, manual seatbelt conversion, and many OEM Euro parts. Outside, check out the Brilliant Black Metallic paint with added metallic and pearl. It sparkles like a diamond. The front badge has been removed. And the car rolls on widened steelies (sadly the 1552 Teardrops are not included).

T-Prime Makes World Premiere at Beijing

With the new T-Prime Concept GTE that was revealed today, the company is showing off all of the technology you can look for in its coming models. The T-Prime is a full-size hybrid SUV that can go up to 31 miles on a charge and gets 87 mpg. The hybrid power station is good for 375 hp and 516 lb/ft of torque and puts the power down with 4MOTION all wheel drive. It’ll get you up to 60 in six seconds. The concept’s real party piece, though, is its interior, which features exclusively touch, gesture, and voice controls. Everything from the infotainment, to the display, and even the gears are controlled by touch-screen. Audi Teases the e-tron’s Headlights Ahead of LA Reveal

Audi will unveil its new electric car, the e-tron GT, in just a few short days, but until then, it will do what manufacturers can’t help but do and will tease it mercilessly. The latest teaser images first appeared on Germany’s Bild , and feature some of the EV’s lighting. While the taillights look reasonably familiar, albeit on an interesting, angular surface, the headlights feature a heretofore unseen light shape.
