Back in 1987 Volkswagen decided that it wanted to take on Pikes Peak, and to do that it figured the simplest way would be to send the most diabolically complicated Golf ever conceived to Colorado.
Why they decided to build the most mechanically complex vehicle imaginable is beyond me, but it’s undeniably rad.
Especially when it takes off. It’s weird to hear to engines harmonize like this, like it’s been digitally manipulated for a live song.
We heartily congratulate whoever at the Volkswagen offices took on the project of getting this thing running long enough to put some runs in at the Eifel Rally because they deserve a medal.
