Joining the “Sport” and “Style” trims, Volkswagen showed the “R-Line” trim package at the T-Roc’s motor show premiere earlier today at the Frankfurt motor show.
Unlike the other colorful and funky trim packages, the R-Line embraces the dark, with a black textured diffuser, a dark red LED tail light cluster, a black textured air intake, and body-colored bumpers and door add-ons.
The dark theme continues on the wheels, which can either be 18-inch Sebrings finished in Grey Metallic or 19-inch Suzukas, finished in Dark Graphite.
Inside, meanwhile, the roof is lined in black textile, the pedal caps are made of stainless steel, and the seats are finished in “Carbon Flag/San Remo” seat covers. Meanwhile, a leather-look material covers the door armrests, the head rests, and outer seat bolsters.
And finally, the whole car is bedecked in R-Line badges, despite which powertrain options remain the same.
If you’re looking for something a little more colorful, the Style package is where it’s at. The contrasting roof color proves that two-tone cars are back in style, a program with which I’m very much on board. With chrome tailpipes and door trim, as well as silver underbody guards and diffusers, it’s the polar opposite of the R-Line. And the 17-inch wheels in four different colors only add to the color palette.
Meanwhile, the Sport trim splits the difference. With smoked glass on the windows and lights, the Sport trim has some of the R-Line’s severity, but with chrome trim, red brake calipers, and silver body guards, there’s a bit of the Style package’s ebullience.
All of which is based on the MQB platform, with six engines (three TDI, three TSI) available, offering anywhere from 115 hp to nearly 200. Offered with front- or all-wheel drive and a 7-speed DSG gearbox, the T-Roc is an agile micro-SUV. As ever, though, VW has opted not to offer the T-Roc in America or Canada.
