VW of America Takes a Sales Hit in July

Volkswagen of America is having a July to forget, with sales for the month dropping 5.8% as compared to last July.

The good news is, though, that the sales for the year so far have remained strong and are still 5.9% higher than they were last year.

There weren’t an enormous amount of winners, car-wise, this month, but perhaps unsurprisingly sales of the Beetle Convertible improved by nearly 50% in July. The Golf SportWagen, similarly, improved by 87%, while the regular ol’ Golf’s sales increased by nearly 2%.

Unfortunately, though, the Jetta, Passat, GTI, and Tiguan are all down.

Sales should improve next month, though, as the Tiguan has its first full month of sales and the Atlas continues to add sales that didn’t exist last year.

Project Golf SportWagen- Intro

I’ve never really been one for SUVs and crossovers. The current offerings aren’t the body-on-frame, go-anywhere specialty tools I remember from my youth, and what they lack in capability, they also lack in on-road performance. The current crop isn’t terribly good at handling or being efficient, which in my opinion are major components of our ideal driving experience.
